Hoodoos, a coal mine, and a suspension bridge

The Drumheller Hoodoos are geological wonders that have stood watch at the mouth of Willow Creek for thousands of years, bearing witness to the people and events that have shaped the Red River Valley, and Alberta.  We thoroughly checked them out yesterday morning.  They are indeed old!P1220179

We hopped back in the cars and headed to Atlas Coal Mine National Historical Site, first enjoying a film about life back during the hey day of coal mining.  After inspecting some of the old equipment, we then boarded “Linda” (train) for a spin around the compound.  We learned what a frog is, and it is not green (it is the track switching spot).  Who knew?!P1220207P1220213

Of course lunch had to follow, enjoyed at the Last Chance Saloon.P1220242P1220245

The fun was not over!  We drove over 11 bridges to get to the LCS, but still had a major one to traverse…on foot…Rosedale Suspension Bridge!  Everyone stayed safe.

Dinner was back at the CG…heavy hors d’oeuvres, provided by Team #2 (Rita, Carol, Sandy B), followed by Round Two of Trivia.  Dick’s team lost…again.  Bummer.

So today we are on the road again, moving about two hours away to another CG where we will stay for three nights.  We will go sightseeing this afternoon, so check back tomorrow to see where we went.

Tails are wagging.  Miles and smiles, y’all!

  1. It all sounds great except the suspension bridge. I'm not too fond of those. Glad everyone in your group made it across! Hoodoos - they may be old but they are new to me!

  2. Perhaps you can rest for a bit with three days in the CG. One could hope. Sightseeing is tiring business.

Have a fabulous day. Big hugs. :)
